For a stunning look into the world of high fashion, make your way to the Dallas Museum of Art to admire the Dior exhibit. (Hurry! Ends 10.27.19)
When I first heard that the DMA was hosting a Dior exhibit, I immediately knew I wanted to check it out, although I had no idea what it would entail. What I discovered was unlike anything I had seen before. The pictures do not do this exhibit justice.
“Everything I know, see, or hear, every part of my life is transformed into dresses. They are my daydreams, but they have passed from dreamland into the world of everyday items to wear.” -Christian Dior
As soon as you enter the main hall, you're surrounded by wearable art. There are rows upon rows of dresses on either side, and an amazing display that can't help but shock-&-awe you. Dresses are numbered so you can read about each one in the booklet you'll receive upon entrance. It took me a while to realize this, so I wasn't really reading about them. If you do plan on going dress-by-dress in the book, be prepared to spend a few hours.
The exhibit also features work by several other big names who designed for Dior throughout history. You can also find accessories, sketches, fabric samples, and even artifacts such as a 1954 letter from Stanley Marcus stating the Neiman-Marcus store in Dallas is ready to hold the first and only American showing of the Dior line. Crazy to think our city has played such an essential part in Dior history! Now stop reading about it, and go check it out for yourself!
